On completion of this course, you will know the basic techniques involved in creating an educational blog, including how to use blogger software to create, edit, open and update blogs. As part of the course, you will learn how to create multimedia content for your blog including image editing, podcasting and video creation for use in classroom teaching. You will also learn how to foster whole class participation in using a classroom blog. By the end of the course, you will be able to integrate blog lessons into the classroom for use in everyday teaching and understand the possibilities of blogs through the introduction of inspiring examples.

Module 1:

Module 2:

  • Understand the importance of adding Images to a Blog
  • Install Image Software such as GIMP

  • Learn how to add images to your blog

Module 3:

  • Learn the basics of Podcasting
  • Gain the skills to create and save audio content
  • Learn how to add audio to your Blog
  • Create a Video
  • Learn how to set up a YouTube Channel
  • Learn how to keep your videos private on a YouTube Channel
  • Share Videos via YouTube and add Videos to your Blog

Module 4:

  • Understand the benefits of bringing Blogging into the Classroom
  • Learn how a student Blog can promote critical thinking and personal development
  • Learn how to help students’ source relevant information online
  • Introduce students to the importance of copyright issues and ethics
  • Integrate blogging and Internet research into student learning

Module 5:

  • Learn about collaborative blogging
  • Integrate blogging and the Internet into everyday classroom teaching and learning
  • Learn how to set up a Class News Blog
  • Gain insight into best practice and suggested themes for educational blogs by seeing examples of how blogs are used in education
  • Lear how blogs can open up learning beyond the classroom

Assessment
After each module you will be required to contribute to discussion forums in response to questions posed by the course facilitator. Each question will require critical thinking and stimulate discussion among your community of learners, all of which will be moderated by the course facilitator thereby developing a community of practice. During the course, you will need to answer multiple-choice questions to assess your formative knowledge of the subject.

To complete the course, you must undertake a significant assignment based on the five course modules. This exercise will take the form of a reflective exercise, the creation of a lesson plan to be used in the following academic year, which will provide an opportunity for you to analyse:
