Module 1: Introduction to ISL

  • Background of Irish Sign Language
  • Learn the Irish Sign Language alphabet
  • Learn numbers, dates and short words in ISL

 

Module 2: ISL Vocabulary and Deaf Awareness

  • Master routine vocabulary
  • Master vocabulary on emotions
  • Learn colours in Irish Sign Language
  • Explore deaf awareness and deaf peer awareness

 

Module 3: Deaf Friendly

  • Explore Deaf Friendly Schools
  • Explore Deaf Friendly Classrooms
  • Learn vocabulary on questions and requests
  • Learn vocabulary of the workplace – school
  • Explore the NCSE document ‘Study of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children in Ireland

 

Module 4: Advocacy and Inclusion

  • Master sign language for hobbies/past-times/interests
  • Master sign language for food and drink
  • Learn about deaf advocates
  • Explore ISL as a means of inclusion within a school community

 

Module 5: SSE and ISL

  • Review of SSE and its requirements
  • Explore the Looking at Our Schools (LOAS) document
  • Reflect and outline how this course engages with SSE and LOAS

 

Assessment
As you complete each module of the course you will be required to undertake a multiple choice quiz. At the end of the course you will be required to complete an assignment.

If you successfully complete the multiple choice quizzes and the assignment successfully you will receive a certificate of course completion.
