Course Modules

 

Module 1: Early Ireland (Stone and Bronze Age)

  • Be able to describe what history is and why it’s important
  • Learn how the first people came to be in Ireland
  • Have a broad understanding of the diet, living conditions and traditions of the first people in Ireland
  • Explore the progression that led to the Bronze Age and the improvement in  living conditions
  • Be able to integrate history teaching into other subjects

 

Module 2: Celtic and Christian Ireland

  • Understand how the Celts came to be in Ireland
  • Investigate the new ideas and tools brought by the Celtic people
  • Learn about the coming of St. Patrick and the changes that brought about
  • Revisit the time when Ireland was a bastion of learning throughout Europe
  • Learn why history can be a good target for your school’s SESE

Module 3: The Vikings and the Normans

  • Explore who the Vikings and the Normans were and their similarities and differences
  • Investigate how the Vikings/Normans ended up in Ireland
  • Learn about the Normans and what became of them
  • Apply the benefits of a whole school approach to history

 

Module 4: Ireland – 1400 to a Modern Irish Republic

  • Explore what life was like between 1400 and the present day
  • Discover the lives of ordinary people in those times
  • Explain the famine and its consequences
  • Appreciate some of life’s modern conveniences brought about since the Industrial Revolution
  • Learn about independence and modern Ireland
  • Receive help in writing a history plan for your school

 

Module 5: The School Self-Evaluation Process

  • Be able to describe how the SSE process works
  • Discuss and analyse the six-step process
  • Learn about webinars, resources and external links pertaining to SSE in the context of history
  • Outline guides which schools have found useful in the implementation of SSE in history
  • Demonstrate the benefits of a whole-school approach to SESE

 

Assessment
As you complete each module of the course you will be required to undertake a multiple choice quiz. At the end of the course you will be required to complete an assignment.

If you successfully complete the multiple choice quizzes and the assignment you will receive a certificate of course completion.
