Course Modules

 

Module 1: Learning

  • Explore general psychology, educational psychology and development psychology
  • Be able to understand the psychological processes involved in learning
  • The importance of educational and developmental psychology and their role in education
  • Explain the processes involved in learning
  • Identify the social, emotional and cognitive processes of learning

 

Module 2: The Learner (Part 1)

  • Identify key stages in early and later child development
  • Explore theories of development and understand how these theories can influence learning
  • Apply strategies in the classroom to support child development
  • Understand the nature of handedness and how to develop secure handedness in class
  • An exploration of Erikson’s Theory of Psychosocial Development, Vygotsky’s zone of proximal development, Piaget’s cognitive development theory and their relevance in the classroom

Module 3: The Learner (Part 2)

  • Develop an understanding of motivation theory and its relationship to classroom behaviour
  • Recognise the importance of pupil wellbeing
  • Promote pupil well-being in the classroom
  • Cultivate and promote resilience in pupils
  • Understand the negative impact of learned helplessness and low self-esteem
  • Target the improvement of self-esteem and development of self-concept
  • Develop social-emotional skills in pupils
  • Identify wellbeing as a focus for the SSE process

 

Module 4: The Learning Environment

  • The importance of an appropriate physical classroom layout and environment
  • The importance of a positive emotional climate in a classroom
  • Tips and tricks on how to achieve a stimulating classroom
  • Explore the psychology of behaviour
  • The importance of working with parents

 

Module 5: The Teacher

  • Understand the importance of teacher well-being
  • Identify and use stress management and mindfulness techniques
  • Become aware of the importance of building a teacher-pupil relationship
  • Identify different learning and teaching styles/strategies

 

Assessment
As you complete each module of the course you will be required to undertake a multiple choice quiz. At the end of the course you will be required to complete an assignment.

If you successfully complete the multiple choice quizzes and the assignment you will receive a certificate of course completion.
