On completion of this course you will learn the benefits of technology in education.  You will also learn the technology to improve Classroom Management and Administration along with using technology to improve teaching and learning in numeracy and literacy using various tools such as Class Dojo, Khan Academy, Seesaw, Starfall and Book creator.

This course will introduce you to some of the most powerful websites and apps that primary school teachers can use in their classrooms. You will be taught the basics of setting your class up on these platforms as well as strategies to ensure these technologies have the greatest impact on teaching, learning and classroom management. This course was designed to be useful for teachers working with varying levels of technology infrastructure. You will be encouraged to make your learning more meaningful by applying it to your own setting.

 

 

COURSE DETAILS 

  • Target Audience: Primary school teachers who want to utilise a range of websites and apps to improve teaching, learning and classroom management
  • Equipment Required: All our courses are accessible through PC, Laptop, iPad, Tablet and Mobile devices. Internet access required with broadband speeds recommended
  • Prerequisites or Requirements: Suitable for all primary school teachers. You do not need any prior experience with digital learning
  • Duration: All Flúirse Online Teacher Summer Courses are available from July 1st – August 21st.  Each course requires approximately 20 hours of training and engagement

Module 2 – Technology to Improve Classroom Management and Administration

  • Current best practice in classroom management;
  • Class Dojo and how it can be used for classroom management and home-school communication;
  • Apple Classroom as a tool for classroom management;
  • The benefits of digital portfolios in the primary classroom;
  • Seesaw as a powerful platform for the use of digital portfolios;
  • Using School Self-Evaluation and the ‘Digital Learning Framework’ to reflect on your use of the digital tools outlined in this module.

 

Module 3 – Technology to Improve Teaching and Learning in Numeracy

  • Digital technologies in the teaching of numeracy;
  • Khan Academy and its features;
  • Strategies to get the most out of Khan Academy;
  • Seesaw as a tool for the teaching of numeracy;
  • Simple, online maths games to improve numeracy skills;
  • Sample lesson illustrating how the content of this module can be utilised;
  • Using School Self-Evaluation and the ‘Digital Learning Framework’ to reflect on your use of the digital tools outlined in this module.

 

Module 4 – Technology to Improve Teaching and Learning in Literacy

  • Digital tools in the teaching of literacy;
  • Starfall as a tool for teaching early literacy;
  • Seesaw as a tool for teaching literacy;
  • Seesaw as a platform for a class blog;
  • Book Creator as a tool in the writing process;
  • Toontastic 3D as a storytelling tool;
  • Using School Self-Evaluation and the ‘Digital Learning Framework’ to reflect on your use of the digital tools outlined in this module.

 

Module 5 – Technology to Improve Teaching and Learning in SESE (Social, Environmental and Scientific Education)

  • Digital tools in the teaching of SESE;
  • World Book as a tool for research;
  • Skype in the Classroom to transform research;
  • Google Maps Treks for virtual tours;
  • Seesaw in the teaching of SESE;
  • Kahoot as an assessment tool;
