69.00

This course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of assessment at a classroom, SET and whole-school level. On completion of this course, you will be equipped with practical tools and resources for implementing a broad and varied assessment programme either in school or remotely as part of distance learning.

Category:

Assessment is a fundamental part of teaching and learning. This course will explore different assessment methods outlined in the continuum of assessment developed by the NCCA (2007), ranging from child-led assessments to those that are teacher-led. By providing clear explanations and examples of how to implement self-assessment, peer-assessment, teacher designed tasks and tests, teacher observation and standardised tests, this course will enable you to implement a wide variety of assessment methods in your classroom.

As well as providing practical tools and resources for the different assessment methods above, this course will also support you in recording and utilising assessment results. It will help you to gather evidence on a child’s individual learning and progress and assist you in identifying specific difficulties, where they arise, through the use of targeted assessments.  By engaging in the course material, you will also be supported in sharing and reporting these results to parents and relevant colleagues, such as SET personnel.

This course will also explore the importance of assessment in relation to key national strategies such as those for literacy, numeracy, and well-being as well as the pivotal role of assessment in the School Self-Evaluation process. After engaging in the course material, you will have the necessary knowledge to gather, use and review assessment data for the betterment of the leadership, management, teaching and learning of your class and school.
