On completion of this course, you will have an array of tools and strategies to support and nurture your well-being, drawn from the field of Positive Psychology. Positive Psychology is the science of well-being, so it is an evidence-based field full of practical skills and approaches. Small changes can really add up to make a big difference!

FSC2039 Well-being: Approaches from Positive Psychology - Fluirse Teacher Summer Courses

It makes sense that, if, as a teacher, you feel energised, appreciated, supported, connected and equipped with a set of skills to enhance and nurture your own well-being, you will be in a better position to deal with the ever-increasing challenges and demands that teaching brings. This in turn actually leads to better student outcomes in terms of well-being and academic outcomes.

From the outset, this course will introduce you to a variety of strategies and skills to nurture your well-being holistically, drawn from the field of Positive Psychology. These Positive Psychology Interventions (PPIs) are evidence-based well-being habits.

We will look at PPIs from different topics in Positive Psychology, including Positive Emotions, Mindfulness, Meaning and Emotional Regulation, as well as gaining an overview of Positive Psychology in general. We will also look at indicators of teacher well-being, including supportive relationships and having a sense of belonging, connection and purpose. Common challenges and stressors will be shared, as well as ideas for dealing with these challenges.

A positive and supportive whole school culture in which teachers feel trusted and appreciated is also vital for teacher well-being.  We will be looking at why this is so important, as well as ideas for promoting such a culture. We will also introduce the case studies of 6 teachers who share their experiences and advice for nurturing and prioritising well-being.

The course will also introduce the Well-Being Policy Statement and Framework for Practice (DES, 2018) which outlines the process for using the SSE process for whole-school well-being promotion.
