To qualify for your EPV days* you can select from any of our practical and beneficial suite of courses. The more courses you select, the more EPV days you receive:

  • 1 online course – 3 EPV days entitlement
  • 2 online courses – 4 EPV days entitlement
  • 3 online courses – 5 EPV days entitlement

All our courses are run in accordance with the Department of Education and Skills criteria. Courses begin on Monday, 4th July 2022 and must be completed by Friday, 19th August 2022 at 5.00pm.

Each course requires approximately 20 hours of study. The Discussion forums are facilitated by expert moderators. When you have successfully completed your course you will receive your CPD Certificate.

The purpose of this course is to introduce Restorative Practice (RP) and to pique your interest in the process of implementing RP to your classroom and school. You will be  enabled to attempt the application of some of the restorative practices techniques, enough hopefully to whet your appetite for further professional development and training in the area.

Module 1 – Introduction to Restorative Practices (RP) 

  • Be enabled to understand the need for an alternative approach to challenging behaviour
  • Have a general understanding of the differences between the traditional and restorative responses to challenging behaviour
  • Begin to realize that punitive approaches are not very effective
  • Have a greater appreciation of the need for a restorative approach in your school


Module 2 – Restorative Practice Towards a Better understanding

  • Be able to outline the general origins of Restorative Practice
  • Be better able to define and describe Restorative Practice
  • Have an appreciation for the need of a RP quality assurance framework
  • Be able to identify the seven key principles of RP necessary within a school setting
  • Examine the national and international understanding and support for RP
  • Better understand the core principles of restorative justice and restorative practices and how they differ from traditional or punitive approaches


Module 3 – Supporting Conceptual Framework and Processes

  • Outline, describe, and explain the six concepts widely used to support your understanding of restorative practices
  • Identify, analyse, and demonstrate how the restorative practices process may be used to implement RP in your own setting


Module 4 – Assessment and Integration

  • Examine the different circle formats and explain why and when you use them
  • Know how to introduce and lead circle dialogues
  • Demonstrate how to transition into and out of “circle time” and switch roles between circle keeper and teacher effectively
  • Differentiate between the two different circle themes
  • Describe and know how to sequence activities to build trust among students so they become more willing to communicate authentically
  • State the restorative questions and discuss how to use them
  • Understand effective communication and evaluate how it supports classroom discipline and community building


Module 5 – The School Self-Evaluation Process and Implementing Restorative Practice

  • Discuss and analyse the SSE six step process and how it might be used WRT RP implementation in your classroom and school
  • Outline practices found useful as guides for schools implementing RP
  • Illustrate ways in which RP can be applied using the restorative justice pyramid
  • Explain the benefits of a whole school approach to RP
  • Discuss the power of language in RP
  • Examine how RP is used to build positive school climate and culture
  • Appreciate and outline the fundamental nature of what’s involved in change, for self and for school
