To qualify for your EPV days* you can select from any of our practical and beneficial suite of courses. The more courses you select, the more EPV days you receive:

  • 1 online course – 3 EPV days entitlement
  • 2 online courses – 4 EPV days entitlement
  • 3 online courses – 5 EPV days entitlement

All our courses are run in accordance with the Department of Education and Skills criteria. Courses begin on Monday, 4th July 2022 and must be completed by Friday, 19th August 2022 at 5.00pm.

Each course requires approximately 20 hours of study. The Discussion forums are facilitated by expert moderators. When you have successfully completed your course you will receive your CPD Certificate.

In this course delve into the psychology of teaching and learning through exploring aspects of educational psychology and developmental psychology as well as their role in teaching and learning. Examine the processes involved in learning and implement strategies and methods to practically apply this knowledge in the classroom.

Use developmental psychology to improve your classroom practice, explore the development of the learner and recognize the factors which may influence learning and development. Focus on motivation, specifically on how to encourage intrinsic motivation within your pupils. The promotion of self-esteem and a positive self-concept is also examined in this course. 

The creation of an effective learning environment (physically, socially and emotionally) is also discussed in order to optimize pupil learning and development. Specific tips and strategies for managing behaviour are  also provided before outlining how pupil behaviour can be chosen as the focus for school self-evaluation after studying this course. This course also addresses the essential role that parents play and will support you in involving parents effectively in their child’s learning. The importance of teacher well being, along with strategies to improve teacher well being are also addressed. In this current era, knowledge of child development, learning and behaviour is essential and this course aims to equip teachers with the psychological knowledge to support teaching, pupil learning, assessment and improve pupil behaviour in their classrooms.

Module 2 – The Learner (Part 1)

  • Explore key theories of development and understand how these theories can influence learning in a positive way in the classroom.
  • Identify key stages in early and later child development with a view towards improving classroom practices.

Module 3 – The Learner (Part 2)

  • Cultivate and promote resilience in pupils through a range of research-based and practical techniques.
  • Understand the negative impact of learned helplessness and low self-esteem and discover how to combat these in the classroom.

  • Focus on developing social-emotional skills in pupils and improving pupil well being.
  • Use aspects of positive psychology to create a positive, resilient classroom environment for teaching and learning.

Module 4 – The Learning Environment

  • Understand the importance of the classroom environment and its influence on learning.
  • Cultivate the optimum classroom environment for learning using advice from this course.
  • Gain an understanding into the psychology of behaviour and use this to choose effective and appropriate classroom management strategies.
  • Work with parents to implement behaviour strategies and improve behaviour in your classroom.
  • Understand the influence different types of teacher feedback can have on learning and identify effective forms of feedback for pupils.
  • Explore peer learning strategies for use in the classroom.
  • Use ICT to support behaviour management, wellbeing, motivation, assessment and feedback.

Module 5 – The Teacher

  • Understand the importance of teacher well being and how to improve teacher well being through a variety of ways.
  • Identify and use stress management techniques and mindfulness techniques to improve one’s professional well being.
  • Become aware of the importance of building a teacher-pupil relationship as well as explore tips and tricks of how to achieve this.
  • Identify and describe teaching styles and associated strategies to teach pupils in the most effective way.
  • Reflect the principles underpinning Cosán the National framework for teachers’ learning in relation to this course.
